F.J. Fray, the brave
A duel is a combat between two people. In duels, people challenge
another person, as their enemy, so that they both meet at a ceremony, in which
they must fight face to face. We could say that only important reasons would
lead people to face like this, but in practice it was enough with matters of
honor or passionate revenge. This was a way to resolve conflicts between people, doing justice by
their own hand. In the duel, the people agreed to meet in a certain place,
armed and accompanied by godparents. Many weapons are allowed in duels:
firearms, swords, or even unarmed ones. Usually, duels were agreed to a single
shot or the first blood. In extreme cases, the agreement was that the duel was
to the death.
Although it is a rumor and is not confirmed,
people say that the last duel in Chile was carried out by Salvador Allende and
Raul Rettig, at a time when both were senators.
Hi Héctor, regarding the duels, I remember the movie Barry Lindon, based on the 18th century, it is spectacular and duels have an important part of the plot, I recommend that you watch it.
